Do successful people think differently than unsuccessful people? John C. Maxwell thinks so and has written another book, based on the premise that successful people have one thing in common -- how they think -- and that anyone can learn that skill. Maxwell identifies 11 different skills of thinking. As he says in the introduction, he isn't trying to tell the reader what to think, but rather help the reader learn how to think. Many of us know people who claim to think carefully about a decision, but in reality are just reviewing their own narrow thoughts, fears, and prejudices. That isn't real thinking though, at least not the way Maxwell would describe it. As he succinctly explains each thinking...
How to Create Incredibly Believable Characters...
You've got an idea for a novel. You have been thinking about it for a certain amount of time, and you have hopes that one day your novel will be published, read and enjoyed. And you can feel satisfied knowing that your idea, your story has been expressed, accepted and enjoyed by many. Perhaps you have already started a draft; perhaps you're in the beginning stages. One thing that can dramatically boost the success of your novel is real and believable characters. There is one technique that can powerfully enhance this, making your characters more accessible to your readers, and making them much more easier to write. Every character has weaknesses, anxieties, prejudices, and lack of skills in certain...
When you Negotiate Check Your Perception
When you negotiate, do you make allowances for the manner in which you perceive things? If you know you're the type of person that possesses prejudices towards a particular situation, people, or things, you should prepare to address those situations before they occur in a negotiation. Not too long ago, I was sitting in a Mercedes Dealership waiting for some minor repairs to be completed on my car. While there, I observed what appeared to be a homeless woman in her late 50s, come in, sit down, and ask for assistance from the sales staff, with the remote for the TV. When she came in, she was pushing a small cart that appeared to have a few personal items in it. I thought here's a contrast. This poor...
Whether you are a professional athlete, or simply want to achieve your own personal best at your chosen sport, neurotherapy can help you reach new levels of performance, not just for a few fleeting moments, but more often, and for longer periods, than you have ever experienced before. The Italian soccer team recently discovered this when they focused on retraining their thinking by using neurofeedback, along with guided imagery and other cognitive restructuring techniques, in a glassed-in room that became known as the "mind room." Their use of these training methods drew much media attention when they won the World Cup in 2006, largely, it is believed, due to neurofeedback therapy. Neurofeedback was...
Effective Workplace Relationships - External...
When managers work closely with team members, the exciting relationship that builds is value-creating on both sides. Greater productivity and performance being the most likely outcomes for the manager, whilst career development and a much better working experience for an employee - just two examples for each that can come from working well together. There are challenges enough for those two to get together productively, with both sides needing to have the intention to succeed in how they interact, as well as being able to work to come closer together to create the right environment. That said, theirs will not be the only influences that will come to bear, despite this seemingly being a one-to-one...
Information on How to Start Beekeeping
Beekeeping can be seen as the farming of bees for their honey and other supplies. It has been in existence for thousands of years, but only in the last one hundred and fifty years has it been treated as a hobby and the honey harvested without either killing or driving the bees from the hive. It has proved to be a fascinating and rewarding hobby that also provides some excellent products. Today it is even more important that beekeeping is encouraged as in recent years there has been decline in bee numbers and it is feared that this will have a devastating effect on the pollination of plants with the subsequent decline in food growth and plant life in general. In order to reap the full rewards of...
Are You Willing to Re-invent Yourself Every Day?
This is the age of rediscovery. Bookstores are filled with hundreds of books on how to rediscover your childhood, relationships, sense of balance, your mission or purpose in life and meaning in your career or business. Everywhere I look I see people who are working harder at trying to have fun and find a sense of meaning in their jobs and in their life in general. Is this an idea whose time has come or is it the accumulation of years of searching and chasing after the empty values in life. People by the tens of thousands are leaving corporate America in search of freedom, fulfillment and a sense of control over their life. People are leaving relationships by the millions in search of something...
Education in India isn't something a new concept. It was always an integral part of the very foundation of the Indian society. The Indian economy has observed an immense growth in the recent past as an effect of the flourishing literacy rate in the country. When you are dating a person of another culture, understanding the culture itself becomes very important. Too many times people underestimate the role that culture plays in inter-cultural relationships only to be left bruised and hurt. When dating Thai women, understanding the Thai way of life becomes all the more important as it is entirely different from its Western counterpart. For instance, in West the freedom of the individual is given great emphasis and people are indeed free to choose their own path regardless of other persons opinion, prejudices, likes and dislikes. Western society accepts and encourages individualism and indeed many aspects of its culture are tailored to suit it. However in...

You Can't Manage Your Time
You can't manage time. Interesting concept when you consider there are thousands of salespeople and managers every day trying to improve their time management. I challenge you to manage the next minute! Can't do it. Time passes. When you are doing what you like or are with people you enjoy time seems to speed by. When you are doing thinks you hate or are with people you don't like time seems to creep by very slowly. The rate of time does not change. Your perception of passing time does. Time management is a misnomer. If you are having trouble managing time I'll be you are having trouble managing: -people -resources -decisions -procrastination -success -failure -emotions -feelings -problems...
Each of us as we travel through life into our very personal future follows our own unique path. As we day by day, travel into the future, we make a variety of choices, decisions as well as take any number of actions - some positive, some negative, some better some worse than others. But, in the end; the end of the day or the end of a life we have all created the tapestry of our lives one day and one choice at a time. It is unfortunate that many people do not have a clue as to where they want to end up, what they want to see or the roads they want to take. Oh, many of these people may say they are "on the right path," but that is often their ego's need to protect itself from the criticism or...
The 16 Biggest Mistakes New Salespeople Make
There are only three ways to sell more. Do more right. Do less wrong. Do both. Here is a list I have compiled during my 35 year sales training career. that will help you understand the most frequent mistakes new salespeople make. Selling can be a difficult and challenging career if you don't master many of the skills and attitudes necessary for success. The price of failure is always higher than the price of success. Fail to learn the necessary skills and you could be looking for a new job or career, master them and you can write your own ticket to the stars. Even if you have been in sales for many years and are reasonably successful, maybe even a sales super star, you might want to review the...
Do You Listen With An Open Mind
It's a big enough challenge for some managers and leaders to be willing to really listen to their rank and file employees, but it's altogether more challenging to listen when you disagree with what is communicated. Yet you have a much better shot at dealing with the reality of your department or company if: 1.Your corporate culture is open and receptive. 2.You validate their ideas or suggestions. 3.You encourage the upward flow of honest information. 4.You reward honesty and quality vs. negative employee traits. 5.Employees believe you really want the truth or the information they have to give you. Here are a few ideas to help you succeed in listening to "the bad news" or whatever doesn't match your...
Eight Leadership Myths
It is unfortunate that many managers today fail to understand the role that leadership plays in the execution of their roles and responsibilities. Over the years I have read over 300 definitions of leadership. There are hundreds of books available on leadership and numerous seminars are held each year professing to teach people how to lead. And yet, many managers fail to grasp the importance of this critical attitude. (I have chosen to call leadership an attitude rather than a skill.) This week I would like to talk about what leadership isn't or what I call the eight biggest leadership myths. If you are operating with any of these as your philosophy or fundamental approach to leadership you might...
How to write marketing articles using great sentences? "The difference between the almost right word and the right word... is the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning." -Mark Twain This short article is going to examine the construction of great arresting sentences - the one that stands out, the one that manages to gather together ideas, stereotypes and prejudices to shine a light on them and reveal an underlying, often unsaid, truth. For the internet marketer, an interesting well written article will get you noticed and create interest. This will take a little extra time and effort but it will produce an article in which you can show your worth and knowledge and let your...
You Are Responsible To Employees, Not For Them
Although you are responsible for your employees' output, productivity, and results, you are responsible to people and not for them. The mistake of being responsible for people is like having sympathy for them. You feel that if they fail, you have failed. Sympathy keeps people dependant. Being responsible to people requires empathy: You understand what they are going through, but it is their stuff, not yours. You are there to help them, support them, and give them the tools and training they need to be effective. But if they fail to perform, it is clearly their choice. Now, if you haven't done your part, then you should feel responsible for them. How can managers be responsible for their employees...
How to Manage Your Relationships in a...
The most important skill as a leader, is your ability to manage your relationships with other people and the process of developing your ability to influence other people. It is an established fact that your success in life, at work, at home and socially depends on how you deal with people. Studies and research show conclusively that 85% of your success is the result of your ability to interact and get on with people and the other 15% of your success results from your intelligence. Regardless of your ability in your job before you took on a leadership position, if your relationships with other people are not working correctly, your skill in interpersonal relationships will be tested. These are the...
Life's Opportunities
The average person gets 630,000 hours (72 years) to do with them what they will. You can spend them watching TV, sleeping, whining, working, playing, living or some combination of the above. Opportunities come to everyone but it depends on how you choose to define an opportunity. It could be an investment, relationship, career or any other type of break, luck or future unknown. One of my favorite quotes is by Mark Twain when he said that luck is when preparation meets opportunity. What exactly is an opportunity? Is it the chance to begin again? Is it an unplanned for blessing? Is it meeting a stranger who is destined to become your best friend? Is it the result of hard work, patience and...
The Most Frequent Relationship Mistakes People...

Any of these do not have to cause the end of the relationship. But they often do because peoplerefuse to; -Take responsibility for their own behavior. -See their personal blind spots. -Grow as a result of these challenges or behaviors...

Frankenstein Costumes
There are so many freaky costume choices in deciding what to wear on a Halloween party. In fact, characters may be inspired by many different mystical worlds such as those from fairy tales, dreamland, underworld, and many other setting which are products of people's creative minds. However, there is no way to beat certain classical science fiction horrifying characters. The Frankenstein character is one belonging to the classical sci-fi genre. It was made more popular on film from a best-selling novel of Mary Shelley. The movie just like that of the novel was a big hit years ago. And, Frankenstein costumes inspired by prominent film and novel, will surely click. Frankenstein is a strange creature...

Independence Day, better known today as the 4th of July holiday, as all Americans know, is a grand and great celebration in the United States. It is often a favorite holiday of kids who especially love the fireworks activities with the loud noises and colorful displays. The fireworks, however, are but a symbol of the meaning behind the 4th of July holiday as we observe this celebration of independence. The meaning behind our celebration of independence on the 4th of July came about as the result of the valiant efforts and strong commitment and determination of our American forefathers not so very long ago. Incredible changes have taken place since July 4, 1776, however, very important events...
Myths of Obesity
Obesity means having too much body fat. Obesity can run in families, but just how much is due to genes is hard to determine. Obesity is mainly caused by taking in more calories than are used up in physical activity and daily life. Obesity puts you at greater risk of developing high blood pressure, diabetes and many other serious health problems. Obesity is also increasing rapidly throughout the world. Obesity also can lead to stroke, greater risk for certain cancers such as breast or colon cancer, and even death. Obesity is not just a cosmetic consideration; it is a dire health dilemma directly harmful to one's health. Obesity occurs over time when you eat more calories than you use. The balance...
Is It Necessary To Understand Oneself!
"Brilliant is one who has exceptional knowledge about the world, Enlightened is one who has implied introspection about oneself". --- First time when I read this axiom it triggered me to think, introspect about myself so much that it seemed to end no where. Probably that's the reason Buddha was called an enlightened being. Enlightenment might also be a search for an unknown truth and what can be this secret truth today apart from knowing oneself, when we are living with ourselves all these years without discovering with whom are we living. What is so significant about me being ME? My personality traits, perceptions, principles, beliefs, emotions. What makes me strong or weak? How do I typically...

The Money Obsession - A Disaster of...
I remember early in my career as a lawyer I thought I had found the thing which made people tick. MONEY! It was really one of those Ah Ha moments but not in the way that we think of it these days. I did not think money was of much importance at all although everyone else thought so, but nevertheless I had been diverted to law from a concert pianist vocation because I just was not quite good enough; a disappointing time indeed. It was just that money in any generation seems to be one of the key drivers and the problem with that is that everything and everyone "out there," is telling us what we need or so they think. Those specialising in consumerism, what consumers will spend money on and how they...
Essential Steps to Build Your Own Windmill
With ready-made windmills costing between $15,000 and $25,000, even for a domestic unit, it is worth considering how to make a windmill for yourself. And it is really very easy to do, with some people claiming to make a do-it-yourself windmill for as little as $200. This will not be as big or grand as the manufactured variety, but the potential savings on your electricity bills will still be very significant. So what steps do you have to take to build your own windmill? Before setting out on this project, you should consider a few things first:o Average wind speed in your area. In spite of what others might say, windmills do not work very well in average winds of less than 10 miles per hour. The US...

Reasons Someone Might Need an Employment Attorney
Generally speaking, being let go from a place of employment happens to be a fact of life. We get a job, we loose a job, we move on. But in some instances, the reason for a lay off is unacceptable. There are several reasons that someone might require the help of an Employment Attorney. Some reasons that are not acceptable to be laid off from a job would include the following: Age discrimination. There are laws put clearly in place that prevents an employer from firing or not hiring you just strictly based on age. Gender discrimination. This is something that is heard about and unfortunately does happen more often than we like to think. This would also include being discriminated against or fired for...
Faith: The Evidence Of Things Not Seen
What do you believe about yourself and your abilities? Do you believe you have the ability to be excellent at what you do? Do you believe you can achieve anything you set your mind to or do you believe that you are just not equipped with the tools for success? These questions all speak to the amount of faith you have in your ability to succeed. They are born of the thoughts you habitually harbor, ultimately determining your level of expectation and the results you experience. Your Self-concept We've all been programmed since birth to think and behave as we do today. Since it is impossible to behave in a manner inconsistent with our programming, this usually leads to a negative outcome in our...
Do You Vaccinate Your Children? The Pros and Cons
In some communities this is a very vexed question. The truth is rarely spoken because both sides of the argument have a vested interest and refuse to look beyond their own prejudices. I am a natural health practitioner and I am married to a medical doctor. When our son was born we were faced with a decision which was no longer theoretical. Our sons health was at stake. My wife had read the vaccination literature supporting the government and medical association position. Of course she also understood the potential side effects. Even though the side effects are statistically small. For the children and families affected they are devastating. What made it difficult for me was having two clients with...
When filing a divorce complaint, it appears that a typical lawyer's standard pleading philosophy is to make as many claims as theoretically possible, relying on the court or opposing counsel to take the appropriate action to strike the weakest claims; a strategy often referred to as "throw as much mud against the wall and see what sticks!" The Pennsylvania Rules of Civil Procedure (Pa. R.C.P. 1020 and 1021) appear to support such a strategy by specifically allowing alternative pleading as well as pleading contradictory claims. In fact, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania has explicitly ruled that "[t]hese rules reflect the general principle that plaintiffs should not be forced to elect a particular...
Using Subliminal Hypnosis to Alter Your...
Subliminal Hypnosis, for starters, is a mind control technique that involves communicating directly with the subconscious mind and altering its orientation. In order to understand how powerful this can be, it is worthwhile spending some time learning how the subconscious mind operates. The human mind basically consists of three components: the conscious, the subconscious and the superconscious. Understanding the superconscious mind is a massive subject area by itself, and I will save it for another topic. For now, I will focus on the conscious and the subconscious. The conscious mind is the centre of logic and analysis. It thinks, reasons, calculates, directs your actions, analyses results and makes...

Why Recruiting the Best Employees is Still the...
Strength of an organization lies in the quality of people it recruits. Employees are the real assets of an organization. Therefore wisdom lies in recruiting the best employees. A smart employer understands the needs of his organization and is not hesitant to hire the top talent if he can afford it. He is secure enough to employ people smarter than him. He is smart enough to keep his personal opinions, biases and prejudices if he hasn't mastered them yet, to himself and have the best team possible working for him and for the organization. After the sub-prime crisis, these are turbulent times and to survive this recession and its consequences you need good teams. To excel in challenging times such as...
Active Listening: Improve Your Relationships at...
1. Leave your own concerns to one side. You can't focus on somebody else if you are also thinking about your problems, to do list or concerns. This leads onto 2. Allow yourself sufficient time. If you have to dash off to a meeting, you will want to go at a quicker pace to suit you, not the person who you are listening to. 3. Talk less than you listen. We have two ears and one mouth, so have your communication in the same proportion. 4. Use eye contact. It is hard for someone to continue to talk with someone who is not looking at them. 5. Show some non-verbal behaviour. Make use of nods of the heads and uh-huhs etc. All of these encourage the other person to say more. But don't just use...
Can You Hypnotize Yourself? About...
Susceptibility to hypnosis is the capacity of going into a hypnotic trance. Most hypnotists believe that the vast majority of the population can be hypnotized rather easily. It depends mainly on the emotional state of hypnosis subject and few other factors. Often the same person who enters into a deep trance very quickly have problems with getting hypnotized just few days later. It also works in opposite way. A person who has difficulty with getting relaxed lose them completely after their first hypnotic trance. It should be noted that people who learn how to consciously enter into hypnotic trance enters it with less effort each time they use their hypnosis technique. Of course this is not a rule...

Medical Marijuana Dispensaries Need Merchant...
Although the sale of medical marijuana is now legal in 14 states as well as the District of Columbia, these businesses often encounter great difficulty in obtaining merchant accounts. Considered "high risk" businesses, dispensary owners often face personal prejudices as well. Unfortunately, many banks just aren't willing to consider opening a merchant account for the owner of a medical marijuana store; they consider the legal due diligence to be too much of a hassle. Options Beyond the Banks When you consider that approximately 75% of the American population uses their debit or credit cards regularly to make purchases, being able to process such transactions can be critical to the success of many...
p>July 4th is a widely celebrated tradition in American culture. It's the day our forefathers signed the Declaration of Independence in the year 1776 and is appropriately named Independence Day. But that was only the beginning. Then came Bunker Hill and the "shot heard 'round the world," the long war, hope followed by despair and finally Cornwallis surrenders at Yorktown. Then what happened? The next monumental task was to define and establish a framework for a new sovereign government. The Constitution of the United States was signed on September 17, 1787 by 39 men at Independence Hall in Philadelphia and has been the supreme law of the land to this day. Its purpose was to clearly define and...
One of the most crucial decisions your company will make as you attempt to build a business relationship with Latin American partners is your choice of the right person to represent you abroad. After an initial contact by senior management, your company will want to select an individual to act as 'point person' to travel abroad and represent your company. Here we have some suggestions to guide that choice and to avoid making mistakes based on misguided expectations. Misconception #1: The representative should have a Hispanic name and background. Reality: A Hispanic name will not garner any favor. Latin Americans are a diverse population, originating from many parts of the world. You will find...

Despite regulations dictated by the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) and the fact that extensive research has found no relationship between a person’s age and their job performance, age discrimination (or ageism) remains a prevalent issue in the workplace. Ageism is the unfair or unequal treatment of an individual by an employer or coworkers on the basis of the individual’s age and is typically directed towards individuals that are 40 years of age or older. Age discrimination costs American businesses millions of dollars and, as the “baby-boomer” generation gets older, such costs are likely to increase exponentially. In Fiscal Year 2008, the Equal Employment Opportunity...
DNA, Intelligence and Evolution
There is an urgent need for a revolution in biological thinking; especially bio-evolutionary thought which is central to the philosophy of modern scientific biology. A revolution which must recognize that intelligence is natural both to our biotic and abiotic physical environment and that intelligent humans are legitimate spawns of an intelligent abiotic physical world-matrix. Biological thinkers are the most naive of scientific thinkers and philosophers. In spite of recent advances in information technology, biological scientists are yet to appreciate that the age-old notion of intelligence as something "supernatural" or "spiritual" has been dispelled, once and for all, in science and technology of...
Managing Difficult People - The 3-Step Process...
One of the most frequent questions that I am asked is "how do I manage difficult people?" In this short article I'm going to my reveal three-step process for managing difficult people; but before I get into the process, let's explore some of the psychology behind difficult people. What is a difficult person? The best answer is that "you know one when you meet one!" Difficult people are the small percentage of the population that just can't seem to get along with anyone. In fact, many times people will go out of their way to avoid interacting with them because they are so unpleasant. Sometimes difficult people know that they are difficult and sometimes they don't. I have had more than one person who...
When a girl is dating online, does a photograph make a difference? Since guys do almost all the work in initiating contact online, there is no doubt as to the value to a girl of using a photo on her profile, but there is considerable difference of opinion as to what makes a great dating profile picture. What makes one girl's profile stand out from another's? Firstly, there is the concern regarding anonymity, and reasonably enough, many girls feel that they have more to worry about than guys when it comes to putting their photo up on a dating website. The simple way to minimise this concern is to opt to keep some photographs private, and only reveal them when you are satisfied with the good faith of...
"The Painted Veil" can be justly tagged a love story, but it's not quite a usual one. It goes much deeper into the psychology of everyone involved than it's usually done in love stories - and it has, unfortunately, no happy end. Kitty marries Walter; Kitty meets Charlie; Kitty commits an adultery - how trivial it might seem, and yet the angle at which Somerset Maugham looks at the whole thing is somewhat unusual. I usually feel sympathy for love - even forbidden love - but I can't sympathize with Kitty's love, knowing it for what it is - a mere silly infatuation. Charlie Townsend - selfish, vain and incapable of caring for anyone but himself - represents exactly the type of a man I wouldn't look...
The Light of A Jewish Birthday
Yesterday I attended a Jewish birthday event for a friend who organizes monthly women's events all throughout the year. She was the first real person I had gotten to know during my first few weeks in Pittsburgh. Literally for me, she was the light as I got to know other women of the Jewish community, learn a few insights on Judaism and kabbalah and participate in a little activity. In a circle, she told us how each one of us represented the light for her - our own little "neshama" or, soul. Each one of us represents the light for ourselves and others - we should need to know. As we light the candles, think of what a light can represent for you. Here are some thoughts: 1. Like a person, a candle can...
